Towing with a Ford or Ram? Check your truck for a recall.

Posted by Portsmouth Trailer Supply on 29th Sep 2026

Towing with a Ford or Ram? Check your truck for a recall. Ford and Ram have both recalled trucks because of a fault in the module that sends power and brake signals to your trailer. When it fails, the trailer's brake lights, turn signals and brakes can stop working while you are on the road.

This is a truck recall. Your brakes and actuators are not affected, but they can only act on the signal your truck sends them. If that signal drops out, the trailer cannot brake. A quick VIN check will tell you whether your truck is on the list.

Ford Recall • NHTSA 26V104
About 4.3 million vehicles

2021 to 2026 F-150, 2022 to 2026 Super Duty Marverick, 2024 - 2026 Ranger, 2022 to 2027 Expendition and Navigator and 2026 E-Transit. A software fault can stop the trailer module talking to the truck at start-up.
The fix: A free software update, over the air or at your Ford dealer.

RAM Recall • NHTSA 26V059
About 456,000 vehicles

2025 to 2026 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups, Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs, plus some Jeep Wagoneer S and Cherokee models. The trailer tow module can fail and cut the trailer's lights and brakes. The fix: a free replacement module, fitted by your dealer.

Three tips before your next tow:

1. Enter your truck's VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.
2. If it is listed, book the free repair with your dealer.
3. Once it is fixed, hook up and test your trailer lights and brakes before you head out.
